ROAD OF SHAME

We told you we've been spending a lot more time up at our cabin taking care of some much needed maintenance items.  We are starting to panic a bit, because it is October 7th and the state just west of us (South Dakota) got 48" of snow.  This weeks looks like a warm front will be pushing up from the south so we will be heading back up for a day or two to hopefully finish the roof.

Rick rebuilt the fuel oil stand and got the east side of cabin roof buttoned up.

Fires in the fireplace are now a necessity.

While Rick is busy working, Izzy and I decided to take a walk and see some of the fall color.

We thought we had lucked out and found a volleyball that someone lost in the woods, but turned out to be a Puffball mushroom - very edible and highly sought after (if picked at the right time).  Will let you know.  It seems they produce when the ground has been disturbed.  You will see later on in this post why our area has been disturbed.

Izzy loves mushrooms and volleyballs - "can we keep it?  Today is my 5th birthday - can we keep it?"

Can't believe she is five - notice the graying chin, however we are still dealing with occasional "puppy brain".

Our baby at 8 weeks.  She was our Christmas present.

Izzy's first time on "Broulee" with her brand new life jacket.

So from 1932 until 2013 this is what our road at the cabin looked like.  They would come thru and regrade it as needed.
This year, the powers that be decided to pave a portion of our road, unfortunately that would be the portion that runs by our cabin.

Our new paved (complete with curbs) road.  The posted speed is 20MPH.  The new norm is closer to 40.

Need I say more!

Rick is trying to get the west side of roof buttoned up, but a weather system is moving in so.....

time to get Rick off the roof.

Lots of wind up there - heading home!

Luckily it all stayed north of us.

We are starting to get excited about getting back to the boat.  Lots of prep needed at home yet to get boats and docks out and plants in.

Ok, yes, stay tuned for the wine making.
