EVEN NOW; WITH A THOUSAND LITTLE VOYAGES UNDER MY BELT.
I STILL FEEL A MEMORIAL CHILL ON CASTING OFF.

The southern cost of Puerto Rico stretches eastward some 75 miles from the southwestern tip at Cabo Rojo. The topography is a wide coastal plain backed up with high hills creating a picture-perfect-postcard atmosphere to each and every anchorage.

The town of La Parguera is named after a type of snapper, pargos. All along the shore you'll see lots of lovely pastel covered houses built right out over the water.

La Parguera is best known for its bioluminescent lagoon called Bahia Fosforesente. Here millions of tiny luminesccent plankton light up the surrounding water due to any sort of disturbance. The bay is best viewed on a moonless night - it's pretty cool. There is an absolutely gorgeous mangrove-lined channel between the island and the mainland that is easily explored by dinghy. You pass under a canopy of mangroves and you are supposed to see monkeys - never saw one.

This is Isla Caja de Muertos (Coffin Island)

Boqueron, is THE most popular anchorage along the western shore, and one of the most popular on the island. Once a small fishing settlement, Boqueron is now a popular tourist and college hangout. It is believed that the pirate, Roberto Cofresi, once used Boqueron as a hideout.
